All the way from New Zealand, artist Owen Dippie has created a new, larger than life mural to the legendary Jean-Michel Basquiat. On the heels of last year’s designation of Great Jones Street between Bowery and Lafayette Street as Jean-Michel Basquiat Way, this new mural is a great addition to help commemorate the artist. It towers more than 60 feet high over the intersection of Bowery and Great Jones Street.
Stop by through Sunday, October 18th to meet the artist as he finishes up the mural.
Basquiat famously spent his final years until his untimely death in 1988 living in a stable house owned by Andy Warhol located at 57 Great Jones Street. Click here for more information from Village Preservation about his life and work in and around NoHo and the larger Downtown scene.
We love this new tribute to NoHo’s history as an arts destination. To learn more about the artist, click here.
