Away

10 Bond Street New York, NY 10012

From the Away website:

What we believe

We live in an age of access. Anyone can go everywhere. The world is a shared place, and every trip is part of the exchange, no matter the destination. We believe in making connections: on the road, online, and in person. We value access over aspiration, and exploration over escape. For us, all time away is time well spent.

How we got there

What you take with you matters. Your suitcase should pull more than its weight—it should be your home between homes, your closet between closets, your outlet between outlets. Because if you’re looking down at your dying phone and broken bag, you can’t see up, out, and ahead to the world in front of you.

What we make

Quite simply: the perfect suitcase. Developed from hundreds of travel stories from friends and seatmates, and designed for the way people actually travel. We don’t make “smart” luggage, we make thoughtful luggage—featuring unbreakable shells, interior compartments, and built-in USB chargers—using the best materials in the world. The result is luggage that is beautifully, functionally minimal. It’s luggage that helps you find your way by staying out of it.

Maison Mayle

33 Great Jones Street New York, NY 10012
N/A

Jane Mayle, Designer and Founder of the line, was born in London, England and moved to the United States as a child. She graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Literature. Jane opened her beloved NoLita boutique and founded her namesake label, Mayle, in the Fall of 1999. She stepped away from fashion for several years from 2009-2015 to focus on a range of creative projects, which led her back to this next evolution of her brand.

Mayle’s sophisticated aesthetic, a synthesis of ideas old and new, foreign and familiar, encompasses a full range of ready-to-wear clothing, handbags, and jewelry that build upon and transcend her original concept for the brand. From its inception, Mayle established itself as a brand where slim, chic basics meet vintage inspired pieces that can be easily layered, lived in, and loved.

Jane views clothing design as a form of storytelling and aspires to give each item she creates the feeling that it might have outfitted a woman glimpsed in a film or imagined in a favorite scene from a novel. She hopes that in wearing her designs, women will sense a story behind them; that getting dressed will be seen as “dressing up.” Mayle serves to remind its wearer how and why she is a woman, spanning beyond both seasons and trends in today’s modern world.

Rooq

13 East 4th Street New York, NY 10003

ROOQ Fine Art and Custom Framing started out as merely a concept in the mind of it’s owner, Jawed Farooqi, brewing into a dream over several years; he wanted to create an open and luxurious space to accommodate his clients general framing needs, while simultaneously showcasing the work of local artists he’d met in the industry over the last 15 years. In 2012, this concept became a reality as he single-handedly built his dream space. The shop, located on E. 4th St. in NoHo, has vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows, making the space bright and welcoming. The white/gray wood flooring, large white walls, and a brick wall (fondly named “The Brick”) offer the perfect backdrop to exhibit unique and varied works of art. One merely has look in the window to see Jawed’s craftsmanship and detail orientation in the large work table he hand-crafted, or in the ten foot high framing closet, built from the ground up, featuring a selection of over 3,000 frames! Whatever your budget, your home furnishings, your personal taste, your mother-in-laws taste, your office decor, ROOQ has a frame to serve your needs. So what separates ROOQ from other stuffy frame shops or expensive art galleries or (oh, the horror!) hectic frame/art galleries? Jawed’s attention to his customers, a critical eye for color and texture, and a ceaseless desire to offer the very best service at the most competitive price!

Selima Optique

7 Bond Street New York, NY 10012

Selima Salaun is the creative vision behind Selima Optique, the trend-setting, luxury eyewear brand she founded. Selima believes your eyewear is a reflection of your look — the personality you project. Your look is the mood you convey each and every day! Selima was born along the Mediterranean Coast and the rhythm of the Riviera is in her soul. She embodies French sensibility, style and elegance. But her wit and whimsy are all her own, and they bring the brand to life. Selima is an opticienne-lunetiere, both a licensed optician and an optometrist, who studied and honed her craft in Paris. She began her career with Royal Optique, a company whose early focus on custom designed frames was the epitome of European luxury eyewear. Her ambition and love for eyewear aesthetics took her to New York City to manage the Alain Mikli boutique. When faced with the opportunity to move to Tokyo for the brand, her fate was sealed. She drew inspiration from the raw energy of New York and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else! With the confluence of passion, expertise, and inspiration, she created her own luxury brand — a fusion of that French sensibility and the creativity that’s uniquely New York. Selima shares her joys and her dreams with her husband, two children, two cats, and four dogs in SoHo.

Since opening in 1997, Bond 07 by Selima has been the best-kept secret of stylists and fashionistas alike. Immaculate vintage and contemporary clothing, in addition to out-of-the-ordinary accessories and eyewear, are chosen by Selima and her team of style experts to outfit you from head to toe. Maria Tash

653 Broadway New York, NY 10012

Maria Tash has been a designer and retailer of fine jewelry for over 21 years. Her interest began at a young age after attending a jewelry design class with her mother. However, this affinity did not fully bloom into a career until some years later after studying in London. There she discovered her appreciation for the art of body piercing and a love of Indian and Pakistani designs, most notably nostril and ear jewelry. Upon returning to the states she decided to turn her passion into a business after realizing how hard it was to find a highly regarded place that specialized in fine body art. It was not before long when Maria opened her first piercing and tattoo spa in New York City. Soon thereafter, noticing most all navel pieces sold were made only of industrial steel and lacking overall quality and style, Maria’s talent and innovation started to take effect. She promptly began to design her own line of fine navel jewelry. Faced with the challenge of creating pieces that were not only hypoallergenic and strong, but also comfortable and beautiful, Maria set out to do just that. And to ensure that her jewelry met the highest of her standards, she wore each design herself to test its durability and comfort. As the industry began to flourish so did Maria’s desire to expand her collections. Now including earrings, finger rings, necklaces and more, Maria utilizes the same standards and design techniques as her navel pieces to insure that her customers receive nothing but the utmost quality in fine jewelry. In addition to having attended New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology for jewelry making and design, Maria keeps current on the latest trends and innovations in the fashion industry through journals, lectures and seminars… and most importantly through her constant interaction with her customers. She is considered an authority in the field of body piercing and has discussed the many facets of the industry in various television and print media outlets including: MTV, The Today Show, ABC News, The View, Vogue, The Village Voice, Daily News Maria Tash is a member and officer of the Armenian Jewelers Association and holds the appointment of Secretary.

KITH

337 Lafayette Street New York, NY 10012

Established in 2011, Kith operates on two planes – a multifunctional lifestyle brand for men, women, and kids, as well as a progressive retail establishment. Our seven brick-and-mortar flagship stores were designed in partnership with Snarkitecture, as we push the boundaries to deliver customers a completely unique experience. We offer an array of premium products, ranging from our own in-house label to a curated selection of multi-brand apparel and footwear. In 2015, Kith Treats was conceived from a childhood love for cereal and dreams of one day opening up a cereal bar – now operating in eight locations, Treats has become a staple within Kith. Our brand has also extended to three shop-in-shops at Bergdorf Goodman, Hirshleifers, and at Selfridges. Embarking on our journey overseas we knew it was only right to bring a taste of New York with us; together with Major Food Group, we introduced our first restaurant – Sadelle’s at Kith Paris.

Kith was founded by Ronnie Fieg, a prominent figure in the footwear industry, who has over twenty years of hands-on experience. Born and raised in Queens, Fieg has been involved in the footwear industry since becoming a stock boy at New York-based franchise David Z. at age 12. With steadfast perseverance, he methodically rose through the ranks from floor salesman to assistant manager to eventually becoming head buyer. Collaborating with brands that have stood the test of time, Kith aligns itself with brands and ideations from Fieg’s childhood that cohesively formalized the roots of his upbringing. Conceptualizing Kith as an extension of himself, Fieg seeks to shift the current landscape of fashion, while operating under a personal philosophy of giving the consumer more than what they pay for.

Jac’s on Bond takes shape in the former home of The Smile, an Authentic Hospitality cafe where the group laid roots and built a community of loyal regulars and friends, including the beloved ‘Mayor of Bond Street,’ Jack Champlin. For over 60 years, Champlin was the cornerstone of his neighborhood and the personification of what it means to be a true New Yorker; Jac’s on Bond is named lovingly in homage to his enigmatic presence and kind-hearted, downtown spirit. Swift Hibernian Lounge

34 E 4th St New York, NY 10012

The Swift Hibernation Lounge opened in 1995 and its founders are Danny McDonald, Mike Jewell, and Anthony Malone. Swift is known for the perfect pint of Guinness, a wide variety of beer, and some of the finest selections of whisky in New York City.

“Here’s an alehouse that feels like a home. Aside from murals depicting boisterously bucolic scenes penned by its namesake, Irish writer Jonathan Swift, Swift’s pub appeal is refined to the basics. The front room is as nooked and crannied as you could desire, with a winding bar yielding several “best seats in the house” as well as a wide selection of impressively esoteric beers and no televisions to speak of to distract your drinking companions. An expansive yet cozy back room — aesthetically, a cross between a church (there’s an actual pulpit in back, containing high-tech DJ equipment) and a mead hall out of Beowulf — helps maintain a civilized crowd density. The food is excellent and the beer list is long and varied, even for this craft-crazy city. But those in the know come here for a perfectly poured Guinness.” – NYMag

Our cocktail list uses choice spirits and seasonal house-made mixers from the kitchen, combining tried and true technique and a charming approach to the classics. Our approachable wine list features a selection of our favorite foreign and domestic labels and craft beers on tap.

Chefs Andrew Carmellini and Zachary Faulisi have created an American menu of bar snacks, shareable appetizers, sandwiches, dinner plates and desserts sourcing local ingredients and New York influence that is available in both The Library and Joe’s Pub.

“Though the Wren doesn’t have a fireplace or cushy seats or any of the stereotypically ‘cozy’ elements of the aforementioned spots, it’s a bar we very much appreciate in the colder months. Maybe it’s the lively crowd, or maybe it’s the awesome fries, but this is the ideal winter after-work hang.” – The Infatuation

Cha Cha Matcha

Cha Cha Matcha 327 Lafayette Street New York, NY 10012

“With all the health benefits and how pretty matcha can be, it only makes sense to have cafes dedicated to the superfood!”

Co-founders Matthew Morton and Conrad Sandelman met in college at New York University, where they studied business management and hospitality. After graduating from NYU in 2015, they travelled around the world, eventually stopping in Uji, Japan.

Inspired by the people, passion and warmth of Uji, Matthew and Conrad returned to Manhattan with a plan to open their own matcha shop that embodied both their New York sensibility and the stateliness of Eastern tea practices. Armed with inspiration and tea leaves straight from Uji, they started developing quirky recipes to showcase the flavor of authentic Japanese Ceremonial Matcha. And thus, Cha Cha Matcha was born.

Kettl

348 Bowery New York, NY 10012

“Tucked away on Bowery and Great Jones St. in Manhattan, Kettl Bowery serves tea and sweets at both our 4 seat counter and take away window. Retail teas are also available for purchase along with a limited selection of ceramics.”

Kettl began from a sincere desire to make the finest teas of Japan available to customers throughout the world. In 2010, after working for Japan’s largest green tea company, owner Zach Mangan took a solo one month trip to Japan and realized immediately the freshest and most delicious products stay within Japan’s domestic market. The supply chain in Japan is short and customers more often than not drink fresh, local tea. Driven by a simple to desire to shrink the supply chain and to connect these incredible teas with a wider audience, Zach began a two year process to develop relationships with several of Japan’s most notable tea producers. Generally, the best teas come from rural, isolated areas of Japan where small volume and high demand make procuring them difficult – and if they have been available, keeping them fresh has not been a high priority. We saw this as an opportunity and challenge worth undertaking.”

Gene Frankel Theatre

We are looking to give a home to artists that cultivate a theater that speaks not only of an idealistic socio-political change – but a personal change, the only truly manageable change that can lead to a new and better social, political, economic world. The work that has come from this venue for the last 63 years has had civil rights and progressive thinking at its core.

Today this is more relevant and necessary than ever. We are looking to reach out to our community and invite it’s people in their whole to celebrate new thinking, new ideas and a deeply emotional positive change. Through an evening at the theater or an afternoon of a children’s workshop – the GFT will be a haven for visual art, performance and discussion in a community that is quickly growing commercially and in our hope; culturally, intellectually and spiritually as well.

Core Power Yoga

59 Bleecker Street New York, NY 10012

When a serious climbing accident left him with six permanent screws in his shattered ankle, CorePower Yoga Founder and CEO Trevor Tice experienced first-hand the transformational benefits of yoga. An avid outdoorsman from Telluride, CO, Trevor was left searching for an exercise to replace the running, climbing and other physically challenging activities that were no longer accessible to him. He found yoga, and was hooked.

Traveling for his technology business, Trevor practiced a variety of yoga disciplines at yoga studios across the country and found an opportunity to make yoga dynamic, challenging and convenient.

Ohlhausen DuBois Architects

14 East 4th Street New York, NY 10012

Ohlhausen DuBois Architects is a New York City based architecture and design firm. We create places that delight and satisfy through their simple elegance.

We are inspired by the qualities of a space – the light, the volumes, the textures, the sounds. In our design-oriented studio we use these qualities to inform our work on all scales, from a university building, to a house, to a handrail. We make places that are specific to their context, that capture the essence of their location, that feel as if they’ve always been there.

We are dedicated to creating carefully crafted projects, integrating the structure, systems, materials and details into a seamless whole. Daylight is the most important element we work with, animating spaces, bringing materials alive, connecting us to the world around us.

Listening closely to our clients, we are experienced guides for each step of the process. At each stage of a project we explore numerous options and possibilities, continually clarifying and strengthening the design approach.

Over the past twenty years our firm has established a strong reputation for innovative, thoughtful design. We approach every project with a rigor, devotion and passion, and our many awards and many repeat clients attest to the quality of our work.
