Do Christmas the Dickensian Way at The Merchant’s House Museum: The Merchant’s House Museum has brought back its beloved readings of A Christmas Carol by John Kevin Jones. If you’ve never seen this incredible production, make it a must this year! Join Charles Dickens, ported by Jones, in the New York City of 1867, as he performs the classic Christmas tale as Dickens himself would have. Get tickets here.
Enjoy a Traditional Irish Christmas Tunes at Slainte: This Irish bar is hosting an Irish Trad Session And Christmas Party on December 20th from 8:00 – 11:00. Niall O’Leary will lead the music. This is great event to attend if you’ve never been before! More info here.
See a Seasonal Show at the Sheen Center: On Saturday, December 10th, enjoy two special, candlelight only performance of classic Christmas Jazz, like Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. They also are hosting Eileen Ivers Joyful Christmas on Thursday, December 15th, Eileen’s Irish and American roots shine throughout the evening’s beautiful mix of traditional, story-filled, age-old Wren Day songs, poems, and of course, foot stomping and hollerin’ roots music. Grab a Drink Among the Decor of Great Jones Distillery’s Whiskey Wonderland: The Speakeasy cellar at Great Jones Distillery has been transformed into a beautifully decorated winter Whiskey Wonderland! Grab a seasonal drink made from their house bourbon, cozy up and enjoy. Learn more here.
Pick up a Gift at dieFirma’s Holiday Market: On Saturday, December 10th, dieFirma will be hosting a one day holiday market at 32 Cooper Square with Printed Matted in connection with their current exhibition, Printing the Future: The Riso Revolution. More information here.
See a Holiday-Focused Show at Joe’s Pub: Laugh through the holiday season at this iconic NoHo venue. The raunchy fan favorite holiday programming returns, including A Murray Little Christmas and Justin Vivian Bond’s Holiday! Both shows are happening throughout the month. Light the Menorah at Washington Square Park: Starting December 18th, head to the Park to celebrate Chanukah with Chabad House Bowery! The Menorah will be lit for each night Chanukah beginning on Sunday, December 18th with a celebration in the Park at sundown. More here.
Winter Luminaria with Tilted Axes: As part of Make Music New York, held on the Winter Solstice, December 21st from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Sasaki Garden will be set aglow and filled with music. Held annually since 2011, this event is a delightful way to brighten up the darkest day of the year. Learn more here.
See Whose Naughty and Nice at Duane Park: Join Bowery’s intimate burlesque hall, Duane Park, for three special holiday themed performances, entitled Naughty or Nice? Enjoy Caroling at Astor Place: On December 9th at 9:00 AM, visit Astor Place for some classic caroling! A capella group CooperTones will be on the plaza performing throughout the morning. Learn more here.
Catch the Christmas Tree Lighting at Washington Square Park: At 6:00 PM on Wednesday, December 7th, join Washington Square Park for their beloved tree lighting event!
