Lower Manhattan, including NoHo, was a hotbed for abolitionist organizing, free Black communities, and the Underground Railroad for over one hundred years. On Thursday, November 16th at 6:00 PM, the Bowery Alliance of Neighbors and Grace Church School will host this exciting talk on our neighborhood’s oft-forgotten history.
The event will feature Suzanne Spellman, a writer, architectural historian, and preservationist. Additionally, the event will feature Councilmember Chris Marte, who is a sponsor of the Road to Freedom Act. This City Council bill would create a task force to expand the City’s dedication to preserving abolitionist sites.
This talk will take place at Grace Church School, located at 46 Cooper Square. RSVPs are required to attend this free event. Please RSVP by emailing events4bowery@gmail.com.
