The last Saturday of April is National Independent Bookstore Day! Our small neighborhood is home to a number of fantastic, independent bookstores to support on this year’s holiday, April 27th. Over the past few years, there’s been a big resurgence in interest in bookstore culture and reading, but it’s still tough to run a successful bookstore, so make sure to support these beloved local businesses.
Mercer Street Books and Records: This sagging shelf bookstore is a New York City classic, go in and see why. They’ve got all the rare, unique, hard-to-find titles you won’t see anywhere else, alongside records and much more. Dashwood Books: This bookstore is known for its diverse collection of arts, photography, and design books in an impressively curated setting. Step inside, and you’ll find truly one-of-a-kind books that are from established and emerging artists alike.
Codex Books: This hidden gem on Bleecker Street is small but mighty, filled with a nice selection of new and used books including a great selection of local zines, deeply discounted sale racks, and much more inside their pint-sized store. Pick a book, go next door to grab a coffee, and read the afternoon away at one of Think’s outdoor tables.
Booktroverts Books: Don’t know what you want? Try a blind date with a book! This little spot inside of NoHo’s Little Market NYC has wrapped books with descriptions, so you can shop around, find the right vibe, and be surprised!
