In honor of our organization’s 30th anniversary, we’re walking through 30 memories from across our organization’s history and formation effort. This is not a list of all of our accomplishments, but a few highlights from our work spanning three decades of service to our community.

From the BID’s ArtWalk, to the organization’s predecessor group the Concerned Citizens of NoHo, the BID’s formation effort, and our supplemental sanitation and beautification work – we cover it all on this list. Take a trip down memory lane with us as we reminisce over the BID’s work.

Have a great memory of the NoHo BID from over the years? We want to hear about it! Please reach out to us here.

  8. July 9th, 1998: The NoHo BID begins a study of the area’s zoning and how it impacted the neighborhood.
  9. July 1999: The NoHo BID collects its 100,000th bag of trash. Did you know when we started, we averaged about 36,000 bags per year, and now we remove over 80,000 per year! Thank you NoHo BID Clean Team.
  10. May 2000: After a fundraising campaign, the NoHo BID was able to purchase 43 trash cans that replaced city-owned cans on our corner. These cans are mostly the same ones we use to this day on the streets of the neighborhood. They’ve held up really well since then and have held so much garbage over the years. This began the process of putting cans on every corner of the neighborhood.

11. November 8th, 2002: The NoHo BID received 53 planters from our friends at the 34th Street Partnership. This began the start of our modern planter program, and was the second big beautification project the BID did. They replaced the original wooden tree planters installed by the Concerned Citizens of NoHo more than a decade prior. The BID continues to find more ways to add greenery and trees to the neighborhood.
12. 2003: The NoHo BID hosts its first ArtWalk event. This annual event was a neighborhood wide celebration of arts and culture that exhibited art in storefronts, brought cultural activations, and helped showcase the vibrant community of creatives that call our neighborhood home.

24. March 2020: As the City shuts down, the work of the NoHo BID is deemed essential and our Clean Team stays hard at work to keep the neighborhood clean, sanitary, beautiful, and ready for people to return. Little did we know it wouldn’t be two weeks after all.
25. November 14th, 2020: The NoHo BID, with the help of property owners, commissions artist Frank Ape to create a mural that helped spread positivity in a dark time. Eventually, the mural grew to cover two full blocks of boarded windows and was a bright light.
