‘Alamo’ or as it’s better known, the Astor Place Cube, has called Astor Place home since the 1960s. This iconic sculpture by the late Tony Rosenthal is a beloved piece of NYC, but in 2021 suffered mechanical damage, and no longer had its signature spin. Earlier this year, the cube was removed from Astor Place for repairs to take place.

As of July 18th though, the Cube is back and fully restored! An all new, weather proof mechanism has been installed that should extend the life of the sculpture another 20 years. The Visit Astor Place at the northern edge of the neighborhood, and as so many New Yorkers have done, give it a spin.
