This September, NYC’s Department of Buildings launched a new unit designed to improve service for small businesses. We hear from a number of our businesses that the process of securing permits from DOB can be long, challenging, and costly, and we’re hopeful that this will improve this situation.
The changes take place in two ways. First, there is now a dedicated support portal for small businesses to ask questions and get one-on-one guidance on any new or ongoing project on any relevant topic. You can access this new portal here.
The other change is that when beginning a new filing, you’ll be asked right away if you are filing as a small business. Ideally, NYC DOB will make sure to tailor responses to the fact that you own a business and are not filing as building management. DOB states that asking this will help them process filings for small businesses quicker.
