The NoHo Business Improvement District (NoHo BID) held its 2018 Annual Meeting at the King Juan Carlos Center at NYU on Tuesday, June 26th. Present at the meeting were NoHo residents, property and business owners, board members, and members of the NoHo Clean Team. NoHo BID Chairman Bradley Fishel and Executive Director Cordelia Persen kicked off the meeting with a review of the BID’s 2017 – 2018 accomplishments and exciting prospects for the future. Cordelia Persen provided an overview of new businesses moving into the district and a trajectory of fitness industry growth in NoHo. We look forward to welcoming our new neighbors to NoHo very soon.
Stephen Lee, the Senior Program Manager of the Business Improvement District Program at the NYC Department of Small Business Services, presented the new by-laws that were promptly approved by the NoHo BID membership. Shortly thereafter the annual budget was presented for the coming fiscal year. Following the presentation of the budget, Chairman Bradley Fishel led the election process. The membership voted unanimously to elect the proposed slate of Board of Directors for the 2018-2019 fiscal year. The BID would like to thank all of the community members who came out in support and helped us welcome our new board.
This year’s keynote speaker was NoHo’s City Councilwoman Margaret Chin. Councilwoman Chin spoke on improvements happening in our community and topics that affect NoHo residents and business owners, followed by a question & answer session. The NoHo BID extends our sincerest appreciation to Councilwoman Margaret Chin for speaking at our annual meeting and being actively involved in keeping the NoHo streets clean, safe, and vibrant.
A special thank you to Sergeant Bailey, NCO’s Adeleye, & Gelin from the NYPD 9th precinct, and Community Affairs Officer Jackson and NCO Simon from the NYPD 6th precinct for attending the meeting to hear neighborhood concerns and explain how the NYPD NCO (Neighborhood Coordination Officer) program works. NoHo has four NCO’s that are in charge of our area and want to hear from residents if any community issues arise. They are available 24 hours a day by phone or email. Their contact information can be found on the BID website. Sergeant Bailey also reminded the audience that calling 311 is a valuable way to alert about problems happening and that government agencies consult 311 reports and act on them. In general, the NYPD explained that they knew about the issues the community is having around homelessness and loitering and is doing extra outreach and patrols to try to help.
