Palo Gallery is hosting Auguste Garufi’s “illuminations at twilight held fast by terror” focuses on work from the late 1990s to the 2010s. Garufi describes his work as a search for essence, aura and entry points into a deeper understanding of our universe. His search manifests itself in collage, sculpture, design, writing, print-making and photography. “illuminations at twilight held fast by terror” focuses on Garufi’s photographic exploration of objects, figures and compositions in a manner that upends the traditional practices of photography. In a photographic practice that uses distortion, chance, unregulated light sources and constant repetition, Garufi strives to unearth and capture the essence of his subjects rather than their two dimensional image.
